If you are thinking about migrating from Salesforce to Microsoft CRM you have come to the right spot.
Planning is critical as successfully moving from Salesforce to Microsoft CRM is a completely new ball game.
On a client project involving the migration from Salesforce to Microsoft Dynamics CRM, I realized its complicated and not easy. So I thought of documenting the 10 things one must know when planning the move and potential road blocks to avoid.

1. Get the team motivated and management support is key. Let the client know that they are going to go through a difficult process but the end results will make their present and future far better than they can imagine.

2. Do you have documentation for Salesforce ? - when I asked my client, where are all the design documents for Salesforce they told me that Salesforce was their documentation. Cool, now I need to only ask Salesforce to give me all the design docs...really!! As expected the process of documenting all the customizations - Triggers, workflows, validation rules, batch etc is a monumental task.

3. Don't forget security - The way Salesforce implements security is not the same as security in CRM. So it may be a good idea to learn Salesforce security, document it and translate the same for CRM.

4. Lookout for app-exchange add-ons - the appexchange add-ons provide additional functionality that may not be there in the OOTB Salesforce. You may want to review the functionality to match using customization or add-on solution for CRM.

5. Get a fresh look into user requirements - as time goes by the current business process may change and not be the same, as when Salesforce was implemented. Or the business needs may require a different process and you may be able to deliver new and better functionality when designing CRM which will win the users

6. Integration - Document all incoming and outgoing integrations - Salesforce may be connected to multiple integrations and the business may require the integrations to be maintained in the new CRM system

7. Chatter is no Yammer - its complicated. Start using Yammer early and plan to move any groups and files manually.

8. Utilize all the cool new features in CRM 2015 update 1 and Office 365 - Server side exchange integration, Server side Sharepoint integration, One Note, Yammer, Power BI, Business process flow and Mobility - showcase the benefits early on to the users

9. This one takes time - Accept the fact and plan resources (time, people and $) accordingly. Its not going to happen overnight - maybe over 3-6 months.
10. Finally - look into the amount and type of data for migration. Mapping and testing data migration is crucial.
Limit the # of years of data you need in the new CRM.
